Creative strategy boot camp: final exam guide

The final exam is your opportunity to earn your creative strategy certification. This isn't a certificate of completion: passing the exam demonstrates that you have a solid understanding of the foundational concepts covered throughout the boot camp.

The exam is designed to be challenging for that reason.

Here's everything you need to know before you sit down to write it.

Exam format

  • 70 multiple choice questions, drawn from a larger question bank
  • Questions are randomized, so retakes will not present the same set of questions
  • The exam can be completed in under two hours for most people

Exam material

The exam is based on the Tuesday sessions from weeks 1-8. Check out the full study guide for more details.

Time limit

The exam time limit is set to its max (24 hours) to give everyone enough time to complete the exam. However, the exam needs to be completed in one sitting. If your computer goes to sleep or you navigate away, your session will end. That counts as one of your attempts, so treat it as a continuous sitting from the moment you begin.

Attempts and passing

You need a score of 70% or higher to pass. Grading is pass/fail, and your certificate will not show your exact score, so there's no need to retake the exam if you've already passed.

Everyone gets one retake, so two attempts total. If you don't pass on your first try, take some time to study before trying again. Retaking it immediately without reviewing the material is unlikely to change the outcome, since you'll be seeing a different set of questions anyway.

If you don't pass on either attempt, no additional retakes will be granted. You're welcome to sign up for the next boot camp cohort and try to earn your certification then.

Test monitoring

This is a closed-book exam. Notes and AI tools are not permitted while taking the test. Proctoring software is active and will flag tab switches, so keep the exam window open and in focus for the duration.

A few things that will help:

  • Disable all notifications before you start, whether you're on a laptop or phone
  • Close any other browser tabs or applications you don't need
  • Find a quiet, distraction-free space

If you use a screen reader or other accessibility software, please reach out to Wes before writing the exam. The proctoring software may conflict with it, and we want to make sure you're set up properly before you begin.

Exam window

The exam opens on Thursday, May 21st at 9:00 AM PT and closes at 12:01 AM PT on June 1st (the end of May 31st).

Don't leave it to the last minute. If you run into a technical issue close to the deadline, there may not be enough time to resolve it before the window closes. You'll also want room for a retake if you need one.

If you do run into technical problems, message Wes from Motion on Slack and he'll do his best to help.

After the exam

When you finish, the results screen will tell you whether you've passed or failed.

On June 1st (when the exam closes), we'll compile all exam scores alongside attendance records. Certificates will begin going out on June 2nd and will be emailed to you directly — each one is personalized to you.
