How to Automate Ad QA With Motion (Cozy Earth Case Study)

Katie Russell, Growth Creative Manager at Cozy Earth, describes the challenge of reviewing over 75 ads per week, which led to reviewer fatigue and errors slipping through. She details her team's workflow using Runneth, an AI tool that integrates with Slack and Frame.io to provide automated, time-stamped feedback on ad creatives. Russell highlights the tool's ability to provide high-quality, unbiased feedback, save her time for more strategic work, and maintain workflow continuity even when she is out of the office.

What's discussed, in order

What's actually believed — in their own words

The problem Katie sought to solve with an AI tool was volume of ad reviews.

Katie Russell · 2026 · observation 00:02 #

The Cozy Earth team pushes more than 75 ads a week.

Katie Russell · 2026 · data-backed 00:06 #

Reviewer eyes stop being sharp after reviewing many ads in a single day, causing things to slip through the cracks.

Katie Russell · 2026 · observation 00:13 #

Runneth lives in the team's approvals feedback Slack channel and drops timestamped feedback into both Slack and Frame.io.

Katie Russell · 2026 · observation 00:20 #

The quality of Runneth's feedback was the most surprising aspect of the tool.

Katie Russell · 2026 · opinion 00:43 #

Runneth identified a UGC ad as too fast-paced and not showing the product enough, and specified exactly where to cut in B-roll.

Katie Russell · 2026 · observation 00:47 #

Following Runneth's feedback made the ad significantly better.

Katie Russell · 2026 · opinion 00:56 #

The tool proved itself when Katie went out of town for a week and the team relied on Runneth instead of finding a human backup reviewer.

Katie Russell · 2026 · observation 00:58 #

If Runneth approves an ad, the team trusts it as good to go.

Katie Russell · 2026 · observation 01:07 #

Runneth is helpful at unbiasing the ad review process.

Katie Russell · 2026 · opinion 01:10 #

The ads creatives spend the most time on and are most confident in are never the ones that actually win.

Katie Russell · 2026 · observation 01:14 #

Human taste still needs to be part of the creative process alongside the AI tool.

Katie Russell · 2026 · opinion 01:24 #

Runneth frees up time for higher-altitude strategic work by handling low-brainpower but time-consuming tasks.

Katie Russell · 2026 · observation 01:27 #

The do's and don'ts pulled from the session

Do this
  • Katie Russell: Integrate an AI review tool into existing collaboration platforms (Slack and Frame.io) to streamline the feedback loop. 00:20 #
  • Katie Russell: Have editors upload cuts to Frame.io, tag reviewers plus the AI in Slack, and let the AI drop timestamped feedback into both surfaces. 00:25 #
  • Katie Russell: Use AI-generated feedback to identify pacing issues and specific missing elements like product B-roll or differentiators. 00:47 #
  • Katie Russell: Empower the team to trust the AI's approval when the primary human reviewer is out of office, avoiding bottlenecks. 01:00 #
  • Katie Russell: Use AI analysis as a counterweight to personal creative biases about which ads will perform. 01:21 #
Don't do this
  • Katie Russell: Manually reviewing a very high volume of ads (75+/week), which leads to reviewer fatigue and errors. 00:12 #
  • Katie Russell: Relying on personal attachment or production effort as an indicator of ad performance potential. 01:14 #

This is one of the strongest ads of the batch. The hook works, the voiceover and text are aligned, and the CTA is clear. My primary flag is the missing product differentiator. Otherwise this is shippable.
Runneth (0:09)
There is no product-specific benefit stated. The voiceover and overlays communicate comfort and cuteness, but never explain what makes the clothing different (bamboo, temperature-regulating, etc.)
Runneth (0:12)
This would be a great moment to insert a product differentiator. It would keep the script flowing and not take away from the engagement of the previous section.

Katie Russell: The problem that I was looking to solve with an AI tool was volume.

Lower third identifies the speaker: "Katie Russell, Growth Creative Manager, Cozy Earth". She is in a room with a brick wall, framed art, and a large plant.

Katie Russell: Our team pushes more than 75 ads a week.

Screen recording of the Runneth dashboard for "Cozy Earth". A pie chart shows "Media Mix" with Video, Image, and Carousel. Bar charts show "Visual Formats" and "Landing Pages". Below is a grid of video ad thumbnails.

Katie Russell: So, obviously that was taking up a huge chunk of my time reviewing every single one of those ads.

A woman in a red shirt sits at a desk, using a laptop displaying the Runneth dashboard.

Katie Russell: Your eyes just naturally stop being sharp after you've reviewed so many ads in a single day and things slip through the cracks.

Close-up on the laptop screen, scrolling through the grid of video ad thumbnails in the Runneth dashboard.

Katie Russell: How Runneth works for us now is it lives in our approvals feedback channel.

Screen recording of a Slack workspace for "Cozy Earth". The "#approvals-feedback" channel is shown. Messages from Katie, James, and Runneth are visible, discussing ad versions and reviews.

Katie Russell: Our editors will upload a cut into Frame.io.

Screen recording of the Frame.io interface. A user clicks to upload a video file named "cozy-video-3.mp4".

Katie Russell: They'll flag me and Runneth in Slack about it. And then we'll drop that timestamped feedback right into this Slack channel as well as the Frame.io account.

Screen recording of the Slack channel again. A user types a message tagging @Katie and @runneth, stating they've uploaded a UGC blanket ad to Frame IO for review. Runneth replies "Working..."
Split screen. On the left, a user-generated content style video plays in the Frame.io interface. On the right, the "All comments" panel shows timestamped feedback from Runneth. Comments include: "00:02:04 Opens with a strong visual hook", "00:07:12 Get more specific with the customer pain points here.", and "00:09:26 Remove this section".

Katie Russell: And then once the video's approved, it's passed on to our approved channels with the media buyers.

Screen recording of the Slack channel. Katie messages @runneth: "The revisions have been made to the UGC Blanket ad I've approved it for launch."

Katie Russell: What surprised me most about Runneth was the quality of the feedback.

Text appears on a white background: "What surprised me the most about Runneth was the quality of the feedback."

Katie Russell: There's a UGC edit where Runneth said that it was too fast-paced and didn't show the product enough. So Runneth told us exactly where to cut and B-roll.

Screen recording of a "Video QA" interface. A video plays on the left showing a woman in pajamas. On the right, timestamped comments from Runneth are displayed. At 0:06, Runneth says: "This is one of the strongest ads of the batch. The hook works, the voiceover and text are aligned, and the CTA is clear. My primary flag is the missing product differentiator. Otherwise this is shippable." At 0:09: "There is no product-specific benefit stated.
